“Freely you have received, Freely give.” –Matthew 10:8
In 2021, the Filipino people will celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the birth of Christianity in our country, including the commemoration of the First Baptism held in Cebu on April 14, 1521. The year-long celebration will seek to explore how Christianity has helped shape the beautiful history and rich culture of our country, aiming to bring all sectors of society together to express our shared outpouring of gratitude, faith, and love.
While it is undeniable that our country has faced countless challenges, tragedies and obstacles throughout the centuries, and it is likewise indisputable that there is still so much to be done to improve the lives of all Filipinos, it is however equally irrefutable that throughout history, our country and our people have also been gifted with bountiful graces and blessings. It is from this strong spirit of gratitude and faith that we begin preparations to use our gifts to shape and build for the future.
From the gift of our abundant natural resources, our vibrant creative talents and our rich Filipino heritage, to the gift of our indomitable Christian faith and the resilience of the Filipino spirit, we as nation take this occasion of the 500th Anniversary of the birth of Christianity in our country to recognize and to celebrate our giftedness as a Christian people, preparing the way for future generations of Filipinos to thrive, to continue in this mission of faith, and to inflame the world with gift of His love.
